Why dig Trenches when there are better solutions
Possession of proper skills to execute a specific trenchless technique is an essential need for success. Such skills are acquired through education, training, and practice. In their absence the projects could fail. Testing of skill levels of trenchless operators/ technicians, therefore, is essential to ascertain their competencies. Further, to maintain the quality of works, testing and certification of worker skills have been explicitly defined in various codes of practice of trenchless techniques published by IndSTT. For rehabilitation methods, IndSTT has published three codes, GRP Lining, CIPP Lining, and MWSL Lining. These codes provide the minimum qualifying criterion for knowledge & skills for each technique. It is imperative that the trenchless operators/technicians or surveyors must be tested and certified for the specific skills essential for the subject technique. Individuals possessing lesser knowledge & skills, compared to the minimum benchmark values identified in codes, could produce failed projects, and therefore must be permitted to function only under the guidance & directions of the skilled ones. These guidelines provide inputs for evaluating the knowledge and skills of operators & technicians so that project executing agency could stipulate the minimum operator qualifications and if needed, test & evaluate those.
